Info-shot #7

I believe that the most famous optical disc authoring program is Nero.

Did you ever wonder why is called "Nero" ?

Well, what about "Nero Burning Rom" ? Or what about it's logo?

"The program's name is confirmed to be a play on words, as it looks like "Nero Burning Rome" (see Great Fire of Rome)"

"The Great Fire of Rome (Latin: Magnum Incendium Romae) was an urban fire that occurred in AD 64
It is uncertain who or what actually caused the fire — whether accident or arson. According to Tacitus, some in the population held Nero responsible."

It's hard to grasp the breathtaking scale of the epic war between Microsoft, Google and Apple. Billions upon billions of dollars. Entire industries at stake. This is the board. These are the pieces.

Apple overtakes Microsoft as biggest tech company

Apple's shares rose as much 2.8 percent on Nasdaq on Wednesday, as Microsoft shares floundered, briefly pushing its market value above $229 billion, ahead of its longtime rival.

Both stocks ended down after a late-day sell-off, but Apple emerged ahead with a market value of about $222 billion, compared with Microsoft's $219 billion, according to Reuters data.

Steam for linux?

As soon as news broke that the Steam client for Mac systems was on the way, Linux gamers everywhere scooted up to the edge of their seats. "Now all they have to do is release this for us!!" which, of course, brought the inevitable "It'll be a cold day...before Valve releases a Linux client" replies.

Not so fast. Over at Phoronix, they've found a sliver of evidence that Valve is indeed working on Linux support. In the source code of the Steam launcher for Mac, you can clearly see the reference -- "$UNAME == "Linux" and PLATFORM=linux32.

As Phoronix states, there's really no reason for Valve to build in a platform check for Linux unless they're making references to Linux elsewhere in the Steam code.

F.lux: Better lighting...for your computer

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

f.lux fixes this... (available for Windows, Mac or Linux (without GUI)
It makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day. (Works with the latitute and the longitute of your location)

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

About how to install it on Linux check out this article: Ubuntu-Inside.me
