Solerbeat - Check out planets' movement

This is a nifty find for teachers, and also just for use with your own kids at home. SolarBeat lets you view the solar system as a simple musical instrument. The planets revolve around the sun, each at its own speed and relative to the others. Once a planet crosses an imaginary line (which you can see in the screenshot above), it makes a short "ping" sound. A slider lets you control the "tempo," of the overall speed of movement.

The status bar shows you how many years have passed for each planet in relation to their respective orbits. You can really see that each planet revolves at a certain rate, that they all revolve around the sun, and that a "year" lasts for a different duration on each planet. These are all facts which can take some time to get across to a young kid, but this elegant demo makes the learning process that much faster.
